Facebook uses Open Graph tags to determine the preferred image that is needed to be used as a thumbnail on its platform. Often times, when multiple images on your site have been set with the og:image tag and your featured image size is smaller than the rest of the images, it may lead to the confusion and Facebook may pick an incorrect thumbnail.
